Shahrizat calls for government to define poverty PDF Print E-mail

KUALA LUMPUR: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry has proposed the government to provide uniformity in its definition and measure of poverty in order for the ministry to implement disbursement of aid to the targeted groups better.


Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the definition of poverty differed from ministry to ministry.

NUTP proposes pre-school education PDF Print E-mail

Sat, Dec 19, 2009 - PETALING JAYA: The National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) has proposed to the government for each primary school to have pre-school education in an effort to make country's education system to be at par with developed nations.


The union's secretary-general, Lok Yim Pheng said, through pre-school the government could monitor and evaluate pupils' achievements before they entered the main school environment.

Mon, Dec 7, 2009 - BUTTERWORTH: More than 100 residents of the Rumah Hijau longhouses in Mak Mandin here staged a peaceful protest against the state government for not resolving their housing problem.



The residents from 75 families urged the current administration to build low-cost flats at the present site as promised by the former Barisan Nasional state government.

Home Ministry probes human trafficking ring PDF Print E-mail

ONE government officer has been taken to court for trafficking in Myanmar refugees, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said yesterday.

He said the ministry is investigating the issue which has been cited as one of the main reasons for Malaysia being blacklisted by the US State Department in its Trafficking in Persons Report this year.

MP says Education Ministry discriminates against men PDF Print E-mail

Tue, Dec 1st 2009 - KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Mohamad Aziz (BN-Sri Gading), who has made sexist remarks in the past, had the House in stitches when he claimed that the Education Ministry was discriminating against men.


”I am upset, I am disappointed. The Education Ministry practices discrimination against men,” he said in his supplementary question to Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.
