Khoo: Suhakam is not an NGO PDF Print E-mail

Tue, November 17, 2009 - PETALING JAYA: Suhakam is neither an non-governmental organisation (NGO) nor is it a political party, says Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Khim.


Dr Khoo, who is also a Suhakam commissioner, said the body was set up by the Government under the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Act 1999 to look into issues dealing with human rights.

Mon, November 16, 2009 - KUCHING: The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) has dismissed the allegation that it is masquerading as a non-governmental organisation (NGO), as alleged by Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Consumers call for transparency and access to accurate information on genetically engineered food and agricultural products


5th October 2009.  A Public Forum on "Genetic Engineering of Rice and Other Crops" was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, through a collaborative effort of the Southeast Asian Council for Food Security (SEACON), the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (FOMCA), Education and Research Association-Malaysia (ERA-Consumer), Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas Malaysia (DHRRA Malaysia) and Pesticide Action Network Asia and the Pacific (PAN AP) in conjunction with the People’s Year of Rice Action (YORA).

Mon, Nov 2 2009 - KUCHING: The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) wants an urgent review of the Sarawak state laws to guarantee all indigenous communities’ their right to customary land.


Suhakam commissioner Dr Mohammad Hirman Ritom Abdullah said the rights of the indigenous people to their customary land, which embraced cultural sites and traditional burial places, should be upheld.
