KUALA LUMPUR: The Emergency Ordinance (EO) can and will be used against operators of illegal online or cyber casinos.

Bukit Aman Anti-vice, Gaming and Secret Society (D7) deputy director Senior Asst Comm Abdul Jalil Hassan said the provision had been previously used on such offenders and the authorities were now monitoring several masterminds.

“However, they are very elusive. There is a lack of evidence because the gaming servers are located overseas, which makes it difficult for us to nab these people,” he added.

SAC Abdul Jalil said police had some successes, though, whereby these masterminds were charged under the EO based on the right amount of intelligence gathered.
