DESPITE a Government announcement that 1% of public sector jobs will be set aside for the disabled, the ruling has yet to be implemented, reported Tamil Nesan.
It quoted the Selangor and Federal Territory Damai Handicapped Asso-ciation president V. Murugeswaran as saying that many job applications by the disabled for vacancies in the civil service were not given due consideration. He also said the disabled faced problems in securing permanent jobs, making it hard for them to be independent.

Murugeswaran added that he hoped the Government would look into the matter and ensure the disabled were given the opportunity to serve in the civil service.
