Suhakam to draft human rights policy specific to business PDF Print E-mail

KUALA LUMPUR: Suhakam is working on a draft policy on business and human rights.

“This policy will be enforced by the Government and observed by business entities,” commissioner James Nayagam told The Star yesterday after a roundtable dialogue with several ministries and government agencies at the Suhakam office.

KAJANG: Prison walls should not be a barrier to the pursuit of education, said the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam).

Free and compulsory education is the basic right of every child, including those held in prison, said commission chairman Tan Sri Hasmy Agam.

MIRI: All Malaysians including those living in the most remote of settlements like Long Banga in Ulu Baram have equal rights to better themselves under the 1Malaysia principle.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday that the 1Malaysia principle assured all Malaysians an equal opportunity.

PETALING JAYA: A non-governmental organisation fears that Selangor’s Freedom of Information (FOI) is open to abuse in its present form.

“Some provisions put too much power in the hands of certain individuals,” said Gayathry Venkites­waran, who heads FOI taskforce of the Coalition for Good Gover­nance.

Najib to call on Penan folk in Ulu Baram PDF Print E-mail

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak’s most remote interior which is home to the Penans will be the focus of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s visit to the state on July 22.

Najib is expected to visit several Penan settlements in Ulu Baram, which is in the innermost reaches of northern Sarawak.
