KUALA LUMPUR: The Society of Petroleum Engineers contributed RM10,000 the New Straits Times Press-Media Prima Disaster Fund in aid of the Hidayah Madrasah Al-Taqwa orphanage landslide victims.
A cheque was presented by the society's Kuala Lumpur chapter chairman, Hazli Sham Kassim, to New Straits Times group editor Datuk Syed Nadzri Syed Harun at Balai Berita on Tuesday.

"The money was raised from our oil and gas technical programmes and social activities such as futsal and golf tournaments held throughout the year," said Hazli.

The society is an international organisation made up of volunteer members from oil and gas companies such as ExxonMobil, Kencana Petroleum and Petronas.

On Monday, Lotus Renault F1 reserve driver Fairuz Fauzy was present at Wisma Mofaz to hand over contributions from the Mofaz Group to the orphans affected by the landslide.

Fairuz, Malaysia's sole representative to the F1 and GP2 championships and Alla Fonte ambassador, handed over an undisclosed amount to NSTP corporate communications executive Mohammed Rizzuan Abdul Razak.

Present was Mofaz communications head Adit Rahim, who said the long relationship that Mofaz enjoyed with Media Prima was the driving factor of the collaboration.

Orphanage management and development chief Mohd Noor Ismail said in total they have collected around RM300,000 but hoped to collect another RM700,000 to help rebuild the orphanage.
