KUALA LUMPUR: Women who are in decision-making positions need to encourage others of their gender towards achieving similar success, said Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
“For example, why is it in all political parties that women make up more than a half of the membership, but women themselves are still not ready to push more women into top decision-making positions?” she said after opening the High Level Meeting On Achieving The Targets of Malaysia’s National Policy on Women yesterday.

It was organised by the ministry and the NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women with the support of United Nations Women and the UN country team.

Shahrizat added that a change in mindset and attitude could bring Malaysian women to another level of achievement.

She said the Government wanted more Malaysian women to be in the decision making posts.

“There has been much progress for them but it isn’t happening fast enough,” she said.

The ministry’s statistics showed there were 32.3% of women in the premier decision-making posts in the public sector last year.
