KUALA LUMPUR: A Singaporean businessman has been detained by police under the Internal Security Act 1960 (ISA).

Abdul Majid Kunji Mohamad, 60, who lives in the city, was arrested on Friday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar in a statement yesterday said Abdul Majid was arrested under suspicion of channelling funds and providing logistic support to a militant group in Southern Philippines.

Police sources said that Abdul Majid was believed to be linked to the Islamic militant group Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

“He had in the past received military training from MILF and had collected and channelled funds for them,” said the source.

Abdul Majid is believed to have fled from Singapore to Malaysia two years ago.

“We have been keeping an eye on him ever since, until his arrest,” said the source.

He added that books on terrorism were also found in Abdul Majid's possession when he was detained.
