KANGAR: The Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, urged civil servants to use social websites on the Internet wisely to avoid being trapped into revealing government secrets.Tuanku Syed Faizuddin expressed concern that social networks like Facebook were the cause of such secrets being revealed unintentionally. “Though such networks have many benefits, some irresponsible people may take the opportunity to capitalise on naive or unsuspecting users,” he said after opening the Smoke House of Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara (IKBN) in Kuala Perlis here Monday. He added that revealing official secrets of departments or agencies, intentionally of otherwise, would pose a serious danger to the Government and the person responsible. There is a possibility that friends or colleagues in such social networks acquire such information by first gaining their confidence through interaction and later “digging” for such secrets, he said. “Though social networks provide freedom of expression for users, they should not dwell into issues that touch on the security of the country,” said Tuanku Syed Faizuddin. -- Bernama |
