PETALING JAYA: Myanmar refugees in the country want Malaysia and Australia to ensure asylum seekers’ rights before going ahead with their swap agreement.

“These governments must conduct a thorough investigation for these asylum seekers so that their rights are protected,” said Myanmar Ethnic Rohingya Human Rights Organisation Malaysia president Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani in a statement here yesterday.

NGOs blast Welfare Dept's 'mentally ill' stand on Jalan Pudu homeless PDF Print E-mail

PETALING JAYA: More human rights organisations have come out to lambast the controversial statements made by the Federal Territories Welfare Department on the homeless at Jalan Pudu.

Human rights body Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) said the remarks made by the department’s operation head Mat Darus Hassan – that it was out of the department’s jurisdiction to aid Jalan Pudu’s homeless as they had "mental conditions" – were "inhumane".

KUALA LUMPUR: Prejudice towards children and teenagers living with HIV/AIDS should be set aside as they have the right to lead their lives as normally as possible, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said.

“They too need physical, social and emotional protection,” said the Prime Minister’s wife yesterday after visiting the Women and Health Organisation (Wake) shelter home in Setapak.

210 benefit from parole system in Sarawak PDF Print E-mail

SIBU: The implementation of the parole system in Sarawak prisons since 2008 had benefitted 210 prisoners, said state prison department director Mohd Zawawi Ab Rahim.

 

He said the system had proven to be successful and there was no relapse among parolees.
